Locally Grown Vs Organic Produce – Different as Apples and Oranges

It’s almost certain that only a decade ago terms like “locavore” and “certified organic” weren’t even blips on your radar. I remember back when local markets were more of a way of life than the “cool” way to shop. But times change.  We now live in a society which is gradually becoming more health-conscious (reports of the growing obesity epidemic notwithstanding!).

With our growing health consciousness comes the debate between purchasing locally grown vs. organic foods.

What’s in a Kosher Breakfast?

Keeping Kosher doesn’t have to mean eating foods that are boring or flavorless. Especially in the case of breakfast, arguably the most important meal of the day. If it’s breakfast, it better taste good.

Every morning I wake my daughter and son (who is too young to pronounce Kosher) and do my best to whip up something one part tasty and second part Kosher. The idea of a Kosher breakfast might inspire images of a plain bagel or fruit bowl, but that’s simply not the case. The options for a great kosher breakfast go way beyond that and you non-believers are about to be converted.

So what, you may ask, goes into a delicious kosher breakfast? Here’s something to get your mouth watering…

Challah French Toast – Grab yourself a loaf of fresh challah, some confectioners sugar, a little pure vanilla and ground cinnamon. Cook up your french toast and then add a helping of kosher maple syrup for an absolutely scrumptious breakfast treat.

To Be Gluten-free or Not to be, that is the Question

There is nothing “free” about living the Gluten-free Diet. Even the most dedicated foodie would be challenged by Gluten restrictions, which if you’ve ever read a nutrition label is in seemingly everything. Yet there’s a spike in those joining the cause. The truth is well hidden in celebrity testimonials and contradicting advice. Vegetarianism: Government Support and The People

Health Reasons for Vegetarianism
This world of ours is growing smaller while the human eco footprint is growing larger. Nowadays eating meat is becoming a highly inefficient way to fuel the human body.

Governments across the world support the people’s choice in vegetarianism because it is the healthier choice for nutrition.  Vegetarians enjoy a diet of healthy food that includes balanced nutrition and none of the foods that are unhealthy like processed and packaged foods containing excess salt, sugar, and fat.  Studies have shown direct health problems associated with eating meat, so much that insurance companies are beginning to offer discounts for vegetarians.

Britain, China, and the World Health Organization (WHO) have all done extensive research studies with large populations. The studies show clear and conclusive evidence that vegetarianism is healthier than a diet containing meat.  Vegetarians have less obesity, diabetes, cancer, and vascular disease as well as reductions in other health risks associated with a diet high in fat and cholesterol.

Tech Wildcatters + Nommunity – Working with the Best

Nommunity loves the Tech Wildcatters. Let me explain.

When it comes to learning something new, having the right guide, mentor, or teacher means everything; without that expert instruction, your chances of failure are almost a certainty. I learned this lesson first hand, in grand fashion and almost literally in a blaze of glory.  Earlier this year I decided to learn to ride a motorcycle. I’ve always wanted to ride one, to be like Marlon Brando in The Wild One. And I thought this was a good idea. I was older and more responsible than I’d ever been. My mistake was my choice of mentor – let’s call him Jim. Jim had crashed his motorcycle  and, as a result no longer drove one. But as friends go, he was the only one who could teach me to ride. Not surprisingly, he explained in vague generalities, didn’t go over the importance of posture, or that the clutch is worked with the feet, not the hands. I rode that bike straight into his mailbox. Crash and burn.
